Aston Villa is preparing for a major bid for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, contingent upon whether they part ways with their own emerging star, Morgan Rogers, during the upcoming summer transfer window. Transfer expert Pete O’Rourke revealed this on the Transfer Insider podcast, indicating that Gibbs-White is viewed as the ideal replacement if a top club meets Rogers’ £100 million release clause.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is keen to retain Rogers, but with elite European clubs showing interest, the team has devised a contingency plan. O’Rourke noted that Gibbs-White’s departure from the City Ground seems inevitable if Nottingham Forest faces relegation, particularly since the midfielder has no desire to return to Championship football.

During the podcast, he stated: “Morgan Gibbs-White’s long-term future will be fascinating. If Nottingham Forest goes down, I think it’s likely he will move on, as he likely does not want to play in the Championship again.
“He almost left the City Ground last summer when Tottenham triggered his release clause, but he eventually signed a new contract.
“While Forest will obviously prefer to keep him, they must anticipate interest coming his way.
“Rumors have emerged that Villa might make a move for Gibbs-White, especially if they lose someone like Morgan Rogers.

“If Gibbs-White chooses to leave Forest, he won’t lack for options; numerous Premier League clubs will likely pursue the former Wolves player.”
A Clash of Creative Talents
Currently, both players are at pivotal moments in their careers. Morgan Gibbs-White, aged 26, serves as a key player for Forest and is a regular for the England national team. In contrast, 23-year-old Morgan Rogers has rapidly transformed at Villa Park from a developing talent into a significant match-winner under Emery’s guidance.

Examining their performances in the 2025/26 season, as of February 13, 2026, Rogers leads Villa’s scoring tally with 8 goals and 5 assists from 26 appearances, using his impressive size and speed to overpower defenders. Gibbs-White has also made a substantial impact for Forest, scoring 6 goals and providing 2 assists while maintaining a solid 84% pass completion rate. Rogers excels in pushing forward during quick transitions, while Gibbs-White acts as a technical maestro, guiding the tempo of the match.
Strategic foresight means Aston Villa must be prepared for any scenario. Signing Gibbs-White serves as an excellent safeguard. Should a club trigger Rogers’ hefty release clause, acquiring a proven Premier League playmaker for around £65 million could allow Villa to reinvest that capital without losing their competitive edge.
This approach is prudent. Gibbs-White’s versatility would enable him to slot into various roles within Emery’s system. He brings top-flight experience and quality in set pieces, which could bolster Aston Villa’s attack, even if they forfeit the raw talent Rogers offers.
