Lille is reportedly standing firm on their asking price of €40m. For a player they acquired for a mere €5m from Belgian club Mechelen in 2024, this represents a dramatic increase. The recent exit of Lille manager Bruno Genesio may have created a vacuum, prompting English clubs to see this as a chance to strike a deal.
Taking a closer look at his performance in France reveals that Mukau has not yet proven to be a star signing. Last season, he played in 30 Ligue 1 matches, starting 19 and totaling just over 1,500 minutes on the pitch, scoring one goal with no assists and three yellow cards.
His shooting accuracy was inconsistent, with only a 26% shot-on-target rate from 19 attempts. He also featured in 11 Europa League games, scoring once. His overall tally across competitions stands at 35 appearances and two goals. While he contributed to Lille’s third-place finish, he is not necessarily seen as a top-tier signing.
However, scouts often consider more than just raw stats. Mukau possesses a physically commanding presence and is a left-footed player—attributes that are highly sought after for modern midfield anchors. He has already earned 12 senior caps for DR Congo.
