Atletico Madrid is experiencing a flurry of activity as the winter transfer window nears its conclusion, with efforts focused on securing vital new signings. Following the departures of Javi Galan, Conor Gallagher, and Giacomo Raspadori earlier this January, the club is now making strides to fill those gaps.
The first signing has been confirmed, as Atletico announced late Sunday that they have acquired Ademola Lookman from Atalanta, with a transfer fee agreed upon earlier that weekend.

“Atletico Madrid and Atalanta have reached an agreement for the transfer of 28-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who is already in Madrid. The deal is contingent upon him passing a medical examination and finalizing the contract.”

In addition to Lookman, Atletico is set to bolster their attacking options with the addition of Marcos Leonardo. According to Matteo Moretto, the Brazilian forward is poised to join Diego Simeone’s squad on loan for the remainder of the season, with a buy option included in the agreement with Al Hilal.

Additionally, Atletico is on the verge of finalizing the acquisition of Obed Vargas from Seattle Sounders. The 20-year-old, who has earned three caps for the Mexican national team, is set to make the move to Madrid, as noted in another report from Moretto. However, it remains unclear if he will directly replace Gallagher, as club officials are deciding whether he will stay at the RiyadhAir Metropolitano or be loaned out for the second half of the season.

The upcoming 18 hours are poised to be action-packed for Atletico, offering a sense of anticipation for their supporters. Despite a slow start to the transfer window, it seems Simeone is finally securing the reinforcements he has been seeking, both publicly and privately.
