Atletico Madrid…

Following the departure of Manchester City, it seems increasingly likely that Bernardo Silva is set to join a team in Spain, with both FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid competing for his signature.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a winning mentality, is a prime target for both Spanish clubs as he will be available as a free agent.

Reports suggest that an agreement with Barcelona is progressing well, with the club waiting to finalize a couple of departures before officially announcing his signing.

Atletico Madrid Holds Different Views

However, MARCA reports that Atletico Madrid is still eager to finalize Silva’s acquisition by the end of this week.

Previously, Atletico’s officials were optimistic about securing the deal, but Barcelona’s interest has complicated matters. Nevertheless, the club’s sporting director, Mateu Alemany, remains committed to making the transfer happen.

Interestingly, some within Atletico have raised doubts about the authenticity of Barcelona’s efforts to acquire the Portuguese star, suspecting it may be a tactic stemming from the ongoing Julian Alvarez saga.

Indeed, Atletico officials suspect that the reports linking Silva to Barcelona could be a strategic maneuver designed to either complicate their negotiations or inflate his salary demands.

Continued Negotiations with Jorge Mendes

Negotiations with Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes, were anticipated to wrap up before the World Cup. What Atletico did not foresee was Barcelona’s late entry in the race. Despite this challenge, the club remains determined.

Atletico’s key advantage is that while Barcelona may not see Silva as a top priority, he would play a central role in Diego Simeone’s plans in Madrid.

Consequently, Atletico remains optimistic that Silva’s initial positive response to their overtures has not changed.

Nevertheless, various reports suggest that Silva has always dreamed of moving to Barcelona and reportedly has a deal in place, with Hansi Flick also approving the transfer. Thus, it remains uncertain where the 31-year-old will ultimately land.
