Barça Postpones Decisions…

Hansi Flick expressed his gratitude for the contributions of Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona‘s title-winning campaign but stated that any decisions regarding their futures will be postponed until the season concludes.

On Sunday, Rashford, 28, scored the opening goal in the Clásico as Barça defeated Real Madrid 2-0, securing the LaLiga title with three matches remaining.

Barcelona has the option to make Rashford’s loan from Manchester United permanent this summer for approximately €30 million ($35 million).

In a news conference on Tuesday, Flick commented, “At the end of the season, we will evaluate everything,” when asked about retaining Rashford and Lewandowski.

“Then we will assess what happens next. Marcus has provided us with a lot and his stats reflect that. I am grateful for his contributions.”

This season, Rashford has netted 14 goals and delivered 14 assists across all competitions while also winning both the Spanish Supercopa and LaLiga.

The England international has indicated his desire to remain at Barça, stating after the Clásico, “I am not a magician, but if I were, I would choose to stay.”

Lewandowski’s situation is a bit different. The experienced striker, who will turn 38 in August, is set to become a free agent in June and has garnered interest from clubs in Europe, the United States, and Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona has discussed extending Lewandowski’s contract with a potential reduced salary, but no final decision has been made. However, sources suggest the Poland international seeks clarity before Sunday’s last home match of the season against Real Betis.

Flick, who previously won the Champions League with Lewandowski while managing Bayern Munich, acknowledged that the time to discuss these matters will come once the season wraps up.

“What can I say about Robert?” he remarked. “I’ve won every title with him at the club. I’m honored to coach such a fantastic player. We need to evaluate the situation and determine what comes next season.”

Additionally, Flick confirmed he anticipates signing a new contract with Barcelona, extending his tenure by an extra year until 2028, with an option to extend until 2029.

“It’s an excellent agreement,” he stated. “We can extend to 2028, and if everything goes well, we may decide to add another year.”

“This is a significant commitment for us to work harder—harder than this season—to reach the highest level with the team and secure titles. This is expected at Barcelona, and I understand everyone shares the dream of winning the Champions League. We aim to try again.”

After clinching back-to-back LaLiga titles under Flick’s guidance this past weekend, followed by a celebration parade through the city on Monday, Barça now shifts focus to their upcoming match against Alavés on Wednesday.

Flick stated that his team would be ready for the upcoming match after two days of celebrations, aiming to achieve a 100-point season—an accomplishment only achieved twice before in LaLiga, by Madrid in 2012 and Barça in 2013.

“Our target is 100 points,” he declared. “To achieve this, we need to win three games. This will be our focus for the next three matches. While we’ve celebrated a lot, it’s entirely possible to perform well too.”
