This summer, both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are looking to bolster their defensive line with a new centre-back, which has led to an overlap in their targets. Specifically, both clubs have set their sights on one player.
Last summer, Atletico Madrid attempted to acquire Cristian Romero, but eventually abandoned their pursuit. Following that setback, Romero signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur, solidifying his future with the club. However, recent developments suggest this arrangement may not last.
In the past few weeks, reports have indicated that Romero plans to leave Spurs this summer, with Atletico and Barcelona currently leading the race for his signature, according to ED.

Atletico Madrid has been monitoring Romero for some time, with head coach Diego Simeone eager to add the player to the Argentine contingent at the RiyadhAir Metropolitano. The club may need a new centre-back if doubts about Jose Maria Gimenez’s future lead to his departure.
Barcelona’s Interest in Romero
Barcelona views Romero as an appealing target, particularly if his departure becomes imminent and he might be available at a lower cost. While their interest may not be as intense as Atletico’s, should they return to a more favorable financial position under La Liga’s 1:1 salary cap rule, they could make a strong push to sign him for the Spotify Camp Nou.
It will be intriguing to see where Romero ends up this summer. Given that the player has previously expressed his desire to play in Spain, a La Liga move appears to be the most probable outcome.
