Barcelona director held…

As the summer transfer window approaches, FC Barcelona is already formulating strategies to enhance their squad for the upcoming season.

One notable decision from the sporting department, headed by director Deco, is to secure a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old forward has made a strong impression during his time at Barça, leading the club to pursue him for a permanent transfer.

Deco Meets with Rashford’s Representatives

According to SPORT, a significant meeting occurred on Monday between Deco and Rashford’s agent, Arturo Canales, to initiate talks with Manchester United ahead of the summer.

Barcelona aims to keep the England international on a permanent basis, but Deco’s strategy is to negotiate a reduction of the agreed €30 million purchase option from last summer, which is currently a point of contention.

From Manchester United’s standpoint, this fee was established in a previous contract, and they are unwilling to negotiate. They consider the agreement settled and see the only remaining question as whether Barcelona will activate it.

Also present at the meeting was Kostas Theoharides, who works alongside Canales and has a positive rapport with Manchester United. He was instrumental last summer in facilitating Rashford’s loan to Barcelona.

The involvement of Theoharides could be crucial in bridging gaps during what is expected to be a complex negotiation. However, Manchester United has not indicated any willingness to adjust the asking price. Their official stance remains resolute.

Despite this, Barcelona is hopeful that as time goes on and considering the player’s perspective, a compromise might be possible.

While the summer transfer window is still some time away, discussions are already underway, as the Catalan club wishes to avoid last-minute negotiations.

Salary Considerations

A significant aspect of the negotiations will be Rashford’s salary at Manchester United. Barcelona, facing stricter financial limitations, is unable to match his current earnings, despite being pleased with his contributions on the field.

If Rashford wishes to stay in Catalonia—a sentiment he has conveyed publicly and privately—he will likely need to accept a substantial pay cut.

Meanwhile, talks between the clubs are set to continue in the coming weeks, as Barcelona attempts to persuade Manchester United to consider a lower fee than the previously agreed €30 million.
