According to a recent report by Fichajes, Barcelona has been presented with an opportunity to acquire Nathan Ake, a defender from Manchester City. The Catalan club is reportedly considering a move for the Dutch player in the upcoming year.
Ake’s Strong Performance in the Premier League
While Ake has found it challenging to secure regular starts at Manchester City this season, he has proven to be a valuable asset within the squad. The 30-year-old has participated in 13 matches across various competitions for the club this season.

On the defensive front, Ake has contributed significantly, making three tackles, one block, one interception, and ten clearances in the Premier League. Additionally, he has shown proficiency in distribution, completing 89.5% of his attempted passes in English football’s top tier (stats via fbref.com).
With his contract at the Etihad Stadium set to expire in the summer of 2027, this could provide Barcelona with an opportunity to negotiate a cut-price deal next year.

Should Barcelona’s Hansi Flick Pursue Ake?
Ake is an adept tackler, capable of timing his challenges effectively to regain possession for his team. He is not hesitant to clear the ball when under pressure from the opposition and is proficient at playing out from the back.

Primarily a center-back, Ake can also fill in as a left-back when necessary. With a wealth of experience at the highest level, it remains to be seen how well he would adapt to La Liga should he sign with Barcelona next year.
Ake has the potential to enhance Barcelona’s defensive strength under coach Hansi Flick. He could compete for a regular starting position at the Nou Camp in the next few years.
At 30 years old, Ake still possesses the capability to perform at a high level for several more years. Therefore, pursuing a player of his caliber could be a smart move for Flick, whether in the winter transfer window or at the end of the current season.
