Barcelona in a race…

Barcelona is under pressure to secure a new striker as the summer transfer deadline approaches, and their hopes for a significant signing are dwindling.

The pursuit of a new number nine has been the club’s priority since the transfer window opened, particularly following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

Currently, the only recognized number nine at the club is young Hamza Abdelkarim, and Barcelona has just ten days to rectify this situation.

Plan A – Based on Hope

According to a recent report by AS, Barcelona is still pursuing Julian Alvarez as their top target, despite Atletico Madrid’s firm stance against negotiations.

The Argentine forward is eager to leave this summer, and fan discontent regarding his situation has grown. However, Atletico Madrid is unwavering in their refusal to negotiate with Barcelona.

Barcelona has not completely lost hope and is still contemplating the possibility of bringing in Alvarez, but it would take a miraculous turn of events for that to materialize.

Two Backup Plans Initiated

The report further reveals that Deco is aware of the challenges in securing Alvarez and has proactively initiated two alternate strategies for the club.

Lautaro Martinez has been identified as a viable alternative, and he is open to a move. While there is mutual interest, Inter Milan remains reluctant to sell him, expecting no less than €100 million for the striker.

The second option involves Nicolo Tresoldi, a name put forward by Hansi Flick. The 22-year-old striker from Club Brugge could be available for around €25 million, but he lacks the experience that both Alvarez and Martinez possess.

Barcelona thus finds itself racing against the clock. They need to determine when to pivot from Plan A and fully commit to Plan B, as time is running short.

Each passing day exacerbates the situation, and with only a limited time left, Deco and the team must finalize their new striker, an essential acquisition for the squad.
