Barcelona interested in

Barcelona is considering a move for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t SPORT). The Spanish club has made inquiries about the potential terms for a transfer.

Interest in the Portuguese international has also been expressed by Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and several clubs from Saudi Arabia. However, no formal talks have commenced yet.

A Long-Time Target for Barcelona

Leao has been a key target for Barcelona in the past.

Joan Laporta, the club president, has consistently valued the winger highly, having previously listed him among the desired attacking options in failed attempts to secure Nico Williams over the last two transfer windows.

Although Barcelona’s priorities have shifted to other players, Leao remains an enticing option should their circumstances allow.

AC Milan Open to Selling

Leao may turn out to be one of the standout bargains of the summer transfer window. With Ruben Amorim now at the helm of Milan, the dynamics have changed significantly.

Amorim’s tactical approach favors inside forwards instead of classic wingers, leaving Leao without a defined position in the squad.

The Portuguese star has reportedly been told he can seek a new club, and Milan is ready to discuss a transfer fee around €60 million or possibly even lower.

Significant Price Reduction

Barcelona’s prior interest in Leao was stifled by Milan’s firm stance. Two years ago, the Italian club was adamant about his €150 million release clause, considering him a keystone of their project.

However, after two tough seasons during which Leao’s role diminished under various managers, Milan is now prepared to accept a fee considerably below their former valuation.

Not a Top Target for Barcelona

Despite their inquiry, Leao is not at the forefront of Barcelona’s transfer plans. The club believes they are adequately covered on the left wing with the addition of Anthony Gordon, while sporting director Deco is concentrating efforts on acquiring a top-notch striker.

Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona’s top target, and the club is focusing primarily on finalizing that transfer.

Only if they are unable to secure the Argentine could the Blaugrana consider other attacking options before the transfer window shuts.

Leao would be open to the prospect of moving to Barcelona.

Even though super-agent Jorge Mendes does not officially represent Leao, he has a strong relationship with both the player and Milan, and has recommended Leao to Barcelona multiple times.

For now, Barcelona’s interest remains limited to gathering information.
