Barcelona clinched their second straight La Liga title on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres ignited ecstatic celebrations both on the pitch at Spotify Camp Nou and in the stands.
Following the match, several Barcelona players addressed the media (via Sport). Pedri, named the game’s MVP, expressed that their victory was particularly meaningful as it was dedicated to Hansi Flick, who lost his father earlier in the day.
“This feels like glory; we aimed to win during El Clasico for the history of it. We played exceptionally well and need to celebrate – this isn’t something you experience every day. We wanted this victory for Flick, for everything he has contributed and for the loss he has recently faced,” Pedri stated.
De Jong: Next goal is to win the Champions League
Frenkie de Jong, who came on as a substitute in the second half, highlighted Barcelona’s ambitions stretching beyond La Liga in the upcoming season.
“Every title is special, but this one means even more as we secured it at home against Madrid. Hansi has a significant influence on us; he provides clear guidance and the freedom to showcase our talent. Each title deserves to be celebrated, especially La Liga. Naturally, we aim for the Champions League; that’s our goal, and next year offers a fresh chance,” De Jong remarked.
Eric Garcia: We had to deliver in El Clasico
Eric Garcia, who performed well at right-back, emphasized the team’s need to clinch the La Liga title despite the somber context of the day.
“It’s been a challenging day due to what happened with our coach, but we had to achieve our objective today. As a young team, many of us have been with Barça since childhood, and we understand the significance of this moment. We wish we had reached two additional finals, but we’re making strides, and La Liga rewards consistency,” Garcia stated.
Gavi on Vinicius Junior spat: What happens on the pitch…
According to MD, Gavi addressed his clashes with Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, seeking to downplay the altercations.
“I’ve told Vinicius to be quiet. I can be a hot-headed player, just as he is… But what occurs on the pitch remains there. It’s football,” Gavi explained.
