Robert Lewandowski might be entering his final season with FC Barcelona, as his contract is set to expire on June 30.
The 37-year-old striker’s wife, Anna Lewandowska, appeared to hint at this possibility during a recent interview, although a definitive decision regarding his future has yet to be made.
Furthermore, recent reports indicated that Barcelona is contemplating offering him a short-term extension with a lower salary.
Lewandowski’s Acceptance of a Reduced Role
According to SPORT, Lewandowski has shown a greater understanding and acceptance of his diminished role with the team this season compared to earlier in his career.
This season, he has logged significantly fewer minutes (1,414) than Ferran Torres (1,725), who has been used more frequently as the primary No. 9 by Hansi Flick.
Despite playing fewer minutes than Ferran Torres, Lewandowski is still sharp in front of goal. He has scored 12 goals this season, averaging one every 93 minutes in La Liga and one every 118 minutes across all competitions, proving valuable for Flick and the team.
However, maintaining the high pressing intensity required by the German coach is becoming increasingly challenging for Lewandowski. This gives Ferran an advantage in terms of minutes: not only does he contribute goals, but he also offers more defensive effort and makes more runs behind the defense.
This factor could influence the final decision regarding Lewandowski’s future. Nonetheless, for the moment, he remains accepting of his role on the team and continues to find the back of the net.
