Barcelona’s quest for a new centre-back is no secret, and with the winter transfer window approaching, their search is intensifying. In recent weeks, several potential targets have emerged, while others have been dismissed as viable options.
Due to financial constraints, Barcelona is unlikely to make a significant investment in a new player, making a loan the more probable route. One potential candidate was Lucas Beraldo, as the Paris Saint-Germain defender found himself sidelined in Luis Enrique’s plans for the latter half of the season.

Beraldo has been on Barcelona’s radar, but a transfer in January has been deemed unlikely. According to Sport, Barcelona never formally approached PSG for the Brazilian international, whose situation has since changed as the reigning European champions now require his services to navigate a defensive injury crisis.

At just 22, Beraldo would represent a strong long-term addition for Barcelona should they pursue a permanent deal in the summer. However, he is currently not seen as a solution for the lengthy absence of Andreas Christensen, who faces several months out due to a partial ACL tear.

Barcelona Faces Challenges in Securing a New Centre-Back
Securing ideal targets during the January transfer window is notoriously challenging, as many players are not available. Combined with Barcelona’s financial limitations, navigating the coming weeks to make a solid signing will be difficult. It wouldn’t be surprising if their “signing” turns out to be Ronald Araujo, who is poised to return from his recent absence.
