As we move into the latter part of July, Real Madrid’s plans for the upcoming weeks are coming into focus. La Liga has released the fixtures for the first three matches of the 2026-27 season, with Los Blancos set to kick off their campaign on August 22. They will play two additional league matches by the end of the month.
Before this official opener, several friendly matches are lined up for August. The first match is scheduled for early in the month against Austria, where they will face Fiorentina. The second match will occur in Coruna during the Teresa Herrera Trophy, where they will take on Deportivo. Additionally, there may be a third friendly in Germany, though this has yet to be confirmed.
According to Diario AS, the very first friendly match under José Mourinho is set for July 28, where Real Madrid will take on Leganes. This match will be held at Valdebebas behind closed doors, with no fans in attendance. It will serve essentially as a training match, and many players who participated in the 2026 World Cup are expected to miss out.
This marks the third time in four years that these two teams will meet in a closed-door setting. Their first encounter in this context took place in 2022 after the World Cup, ending in a 1-1 draw. Last year, Real Madrid secured a 4-1 victory in a similar situation.
The relationship between Real Madrid and Leganes remains strong, and while fans won’t have the opportunity to witness the match live, it will still provide Mourinho a chance to assess his squad and strategies ahead of the new season.
