Birmingham City has reached an agreement to transfer defender Kai Wagner back to MLS team Philadelphia Union, just six months after he joined the Blues.
The 29-year-old defender signed a two-and-a-half-year contract in January for an undisclosed transfer fee after a seven-year tenure with Philadelphia.
During his brief time at St Andrew’s, Wagner appeared in 16 Championship matches and made two appearances in the FA Cup, scoring his sole goal for the club in a third-round victory against Cambridge United.
According to Birmingham, Wagner expressed a desire to return to the United States for personal reasons in recent discussions, leading to a mutually beneficial agreement with Philadelphia.
Birmingham manager Chris Davies expressed his disappointment at losing Wagner but stated that he fully respects his decision, emphasizing that family must come first.
