Former Oxford United manager Matt Bloomfield has voiced his disappointment following his dismissal and the appointment of Aaron Ramsey, a former midfielder for Arsenal and Wales.
Last season, Oxford faced relegation to League One, but under Bloomfield’s leadership, the team demonstrated improvement, raising their points per game from 0.88 to 1.19 prior to his sacking in June.
During his tenure, the club also increased their clean sheets from two to six.
In a statement to the League Managers Association, Bloomfield expressed pride in the commitment shown by the players and coaching staff. He reflected on their efforts to turn the season around and believed that, with more time, the results would have been different.
“Naturally, I’m disappointed not to be able to carry on. I was eager to continue our work and implement our vision to enhance the playing style and progress the club,” he stated.
Oxford wrapped up last season in 22nd place with 47 points, trailing four points behind West Bromwich Albion.
