Boros Energy and Time…

New Middlesbrough head coach Kim Hellberg expressed that securing a win in his debut match against Derby County has brought “energy and time” to everyone at the club.

After being behind for over 70 minutes, Boro netted two late goals, turning the tide and giving Hellberg a remarkable start to his tenure.

As a result, the former Hammarby coach is now on track, with a performance that has propelled his new team back into the Championship’s top two ahead of their Friday night clash with Hull City.

“For me, getting that first win was crucial—it brings energy, it allows time, and it provides many benefits,” he told BBC Radio Tees.

“It’s always easier to start with a win. I began my role on Thursday and we played on Saturday, so that victory is a boost for us moving forward.”

Hellberg has been swiftly getting up to speed with the Championship by watching as many matches as he can.

He viewed Hull’s win against Stoke on television last Saturday in preparation for his own game at The Riverside, alongside numerous other league matches.

The Swede has also been analyzing Boro’s performances from recent years to understand the playing style that fits his new squad and how to establish a structure that maximizes their potential.

“I’ve been examining the players who scored goals over the last four or five years—how they found the net,” he shared.

“I mapped out where their goals came from and how many touches they had, trying to build a clear picture of their strengths.”

“In general, I also looked into how they have defended and performed this season.

“I’ve done as much research as possible, but being with the players allows for a better understanding of them.”

“It’s about maintaining an open mind while trying to gain as much insight as possible by watching their past games. Finding that balance is essential.”
