Alphonso Davies is racing against time to be fit for Canada’s World Cup match against Bosnia on June 12.
Bayern Munich has confirmed that Davies will be sidelined for “several weeks” due to a hamstring injury he sustained during their Champions League semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
This injury raises concerns about the participation of Canada‘s captain in the early stages of their World Cup journey. His absence would be a significant blow for Jesse Marsch’s squad, given his crucial role as a star player and team leader.
In a statement, Canada said, “We are in close communication with Alphonso and are collaborating with Bayern’s medical staff following his recent injury. Our primary focus is on supporting his recovery and providing all necessary resources, including specialized soft tissue expertise, to ensure he returns to full fitness ahead of the FIFA World Cup.”
This season, Davies has faced challenges with injuries, making only six Bundesliga starts for Bayern Munich.
