Luton Town manager Jack Wilshere believes that Saturday’s away match against League One leaders Cardiff City will serve as an important “marker” for evaluating the team’s development since he took charge in October.
During Wilshere’s tenure, the Hatters have secured 11 victories out of 24 matches, while experiencing seven defeats, leaving them in seventh place on the table. However, their away performances have not been as strong as their home form at Kenilworth Road.

“I’m really looking forward to this game,” he shared with BBC Three Counties Radio. “We’ve faced challenges away from home against direct teams that deliver crosses into the box. While I’m not suggesting Cardiff won’t put balls into our area, their approach will be different, and it’s crucial that we prepare accordingly.”
“This presents a solid challenge for us, a true test of how far we’ve progressed since my arrival, and an opportunity to measure ourselves against the current league leaders.”
He added, “Our aim is to go there and force them to defend for extended periods, reducing our own defensive workload.”

Wilshere is optimistic that the recent signing of striker Devante Cole from Port Vale will enhance Luton’s attacking options.
He remarked, “I’m pleased with the dynamic of our strikers. Nahki (Wells) has been influential, Ali (Al-Hamadi) is nearing his return, and Devante is just starting to settle into our style of play. We recognize the unique qualities Devante brings, and we need to assist him in identifying the right moments to make runs behind defenders. He certainly adds a different dimension to our attack.”
