Celtic skipper Callum…

Forward Camilo Duran, who scored on his debut during Tuesday’s 4-1 friendly loss to Sporting CP, is the only new arrival at Celtic so far, with O’Neill still looking to add to the squad before the new season.

Alongside McGregor, there is ongoing speculation about the futures of Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate.

O’Neill was reported as saying McGregor has not indicated a desire to leave, while acknowledging that finances can be an important factor for players over 30.

Asked about his motivation after last season’s double took his major trophy tally to 26, the captain stressed that Celtic players don’t grow tired of success.

He noted that over the past 14–15 years the club has set exceptionally high standards, winning numerous titles and continually striving to improve in Europe.

With that success, he said, come greater expectations and a larger target on their backs, which demands even more effort to defend their achievements.

He added that the long-serving core of the squad understands this responsibility and must keep driving standards.

For a Celtic player, he concluded, there is no room for complacency—only the constant pursuit of winning and improving, both individually and as a team.
