Cole Palmer has not made the trip with the Chelsea squad for their Champions League match against Atalanta.
Manager Enzo Maresca has stated that the England forward is being rested as he continues his recovery from injury. Palmer had been sidelined due to a groin issue and missed an additional week after suffering a toe injury at home.

The 23-year-old made his first start for Chelsea since September during Saturday’s goalless draw against Bournemouth.
“Cole is currently in the process of recovery. He isn’t available, as he can’t play two matches within three days,” Maresca explained. “This is just a precaution to ensure his protection.”
Liam Delap is also missing due to a shoulder injury sustained during the game against Bournemouth, but Maresca shared some good news regarding the striker.
“Fortunately, there is no fracture for Liam, which is a relief,” the Italian added.
The unfortunate 22-year-old has already dealt with a hamstring injury that kept him out for two months earlier this season.

Maresca further commented, “We are not certain about how long Liam will be sidelined yet.”

Delap’s injury does not lead to a recall for Raheem Sterling, who remains sidelined along with defender Axel Disasi, who is expected to leave in January.
“As for Raheem, it’s the same situation I mentioned about Axel; they are still part of Chelsea,” Maresca stated. “Now that it’s December and with January approaching, anything is possible.”
Defenders Reece James and Wesley Fofana are also being managed carefully due to their recent injuries, but both have been included in the travel squad.

“Reece and Wes are with us, so they are both available for tomorrow’s match,” said Maresca. “We will finalize the starting line-up for tomorrow’s game.”

Winger Alejandro Garnacho is likely to start, having adapted well since joining from Manchester United over the summer.
“Sometimes in life, you have to make changes to progress or enhance your skills as a player,” noted the Argentina international. “I believe it was the right moment and the right club for me, making the decision straightforward.”
Chelsea will begin the match in seventh place in the Champions League rankings after their recent 3-0 victory against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.
