As anticipated, FC Barcelona has officially confirmed the renewal of defender Andreas Christensen until the summer of 2028.
The 30-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire on June 30, and after extensive negotiations, an agreement for an extension was reached last month.

Christensen has now signed his new contract, securing his place at the club for an additional two seasons until summer 2028.
“FC Barcelona and Andreas Christensen have reached an agreement for the extension of the Danish defender’s contract, keeping him at the Club until June 30, 2028,” read the club statement.
“The centre-back adds another two seasons to his deal, and both the Club and the player will formalize the agreement soon at the Club offices.”
Full Confidence in Christensen Despite Injury Challenges
Christensen has been with Barcelona for four years, joining as a free agent in the summer of 2022 following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea.

The 30-year-old was instrumental in the squad that won the La Liga title during his debut season under Xavi Hernandez. However, he has faced challenges in maintaining consistent playtime due to recurring injuries since then.
Christensen missed the entire second half of last season due to a partial ACL tear sustained in December, raising concerns about his future.
Still, Barcelona president Joan Laporta was determined to support the defender during this challenging period, and manager Hansi Flick continues to have strong faith in Christensen’s abilities.
Consequently, the La Liga champions decided to pursue a two-year extension for Christensen, maintaining his contract until 2028.

While the club statement does not specify, it is reported that the new contract includes an option for both Christensen and Barcelona to terminate the agreement after one year, in 2027.
