Chelsea is currently grappling with cultural challenges that are hindering their advancement. These issues were highlighted during a protest march with around 200 fans taking place on Wembley Way last Saturday.
There is a noticeable gap developing between the supporters and the club, as well as between the fans and the players. Additionally, rifts appear to be forming within the squad and the broader organization.

As influential co-owner Behdad Eghbali has pointed out, one key factor is the need for “stability on the managerial front,” which the club has not managed effectively so far.
There are hopes that the appointment of Xabi Alonso, with his considerable experience and stature, can help to mend this divide, restoring the club’s ambition and facilitating better communication with both players and supporters.
On the field, Alonso’s objective will be to enhance the team’s mental, physical, and tactical qualities.
Concerns have been raised regarding the squad’s mentality, with allegations of players “downing tools” this season, resulting in the worst disciplinary record in the league and a lackluster performance in important matches.

This includes a dismal 14-game winless streak against Manchester City and seven consecutive losses in domestic cup finals.
On a physical level, Chelsea have been consistently outperformed by their rivals, covering less distance than any other team in the Premier League this season, except for one instance during a 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend.
Defensively, the troubles experienced under Enzo Maresca earlier in the season escalated into broader issues at both ends of the pitch under Liam Rosenior. His tenure, characterized by six consecutive losses without scoring, ultimately led to his dismissal.
Despite a closely contested match against Pep Guardiola’s team, interim manager Calum McFarlane lamented the harsh realities of football, feeling his team deserved at least one penalty.

“This is a really talented group with significant quality,” he stated. “While questions have been raised about their fight and determination at times, I believe those qualities were evident in our last two performances.”
Despite the undeniable talent present, there is still much work ahead.
Chelsea’s passionate fanbase has seen a tumultuous period with the club transitioning from Maresca to Rosenior to McFarlane, and now to Alonso in just five months.
The ownership of the club is under scrutiny, and Alonso has a challenging road ahead as he works to unify the various elements of the team.
