Portadown’s manager, Niall Currie, has heaped praise on matchwinner James Teelan after the winger secured a 1-0 triumph against Ballymena United at Shamrock Park.

The former Newry City and Crusaders player netted the decisive goal with just 15 minutes left on the clock, earning his team all three points.

“James stepped up for us once again, and it’s a massive result,” Currie told BBC Sport NI post-match.

“He poses a significant threat and has that one attribute that defenders dread—pace. He possesses plenty of both speed and skill.”

“We’re thrilled to have him on our side, and he’s become a crucial player for us.”

The Ports manager expressed satisfaction with his team’s defensive performance, highlighting that they maintained a second consecutive clean sheet following their victory over Crusaders the previous week.

“It wasn’t the prettiest match to watch. It was one of those evenly contested games where we needed to emerge victorious, and we did just that,” he remarked.

“Both teams were closely matched, but I believe we managed to handle Ballymena effectively, looking solid defensively.”

“We’ve conceded too many goals this season, but securing our second clean sheet in a row is a foundation to build upon—it’s essential for winning matches.”

“I think we still posed a threat for most of the game, but sometimes it takes a moment of magic to claim victory.”
