De Zerbi Discusses...

Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi addressed the media ahead of Saturday’s Premier League match against Newcastle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30.

New signing Omar Marmoush is set to play alongside Micky van de Ven, while Mohammed Kudus might start on the bench. James Maddison is questionable after suffering pain in his left shoulder during the defeat to Brentford.
De Zerbi described Marmoush as “a very intelligent player with a coach’s understanding of the game,” highlighting his unique qualities that could see him play as a central striker or a number 10.
The manager expressed his satisfaction with Spurs’ transfer activities, noting that they have exceeded his initial expectations for the window.
He commended the potential of the young players brought in, as well as the “atmosphere and behavior” contributed by the more seasoned players acquired during the transfer window.
Regarding potential further signings, De Zerbi indicated they may look for “one more player in a specific position,” and that he is aligned with the owner after dinner discussions on Thursday.
On player roles, he stated: “I’ve communicated clearly with the players. They should not be surprised if they want to leave without an offer. Respect is essential in the dressing room, and rules have been established from the start.”
He believes the regulations regarding the balance of foreign and homegrown players in squads are “appropriate.”
De Zerbi acknowledged that his team “must perform better,” particularly in contrast to their display against Brentford.
He emphasized that while time is needed to reach their peak performance, they possess the quality to secure a victory.
On Pape Matar Sarr, he commented, “He has potential, but we’ll assess what happens on the final day of the transfer window.”
Regarding Maddison, he noted, “We need to develop the right strategy. He brings a positive energy, and we are fortunate to have him on our side.”
