This summer promises to be another hectic one for Real Madrid, with numerous signings and departures already in the works. Although much remains undecided, one exit appears to be nearly finalized.
Several players are facing expiring contracts at the Bernabeu. While Dani Carvajal and Antonio Rudiger have uncertain futures, David Alaba’s situation is clearer: he is set to leave the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via ED), Real Madrid has already decided not to extend Alaba’s contract, which expires in June. The veteran defender has had limited opportunities since suffering an ACL injury in 2023, and he will no longer feature prominently, making this season his last in the Spanish capital.

Alaba joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2021 after leaving Bayern Munich. He has made a total of 126 appearances in the iconic white jersey, although he is unlikely to add many more to that tally this season, as head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, and Raul Asencio ahead of him in the lineup.

Real Madrid’s Search for Alaba’s Replacement
Once Alaba departs, Real Madrid is expected to look for a new central defender. Plans are already underway to strengthen their defense, with La Fabrica graduate Jacobo Ramon being a top contender for the summer transfer window.
While Alaba’s exit may not be the most dramatic conclusion to his time at Real Madrid, his contributions to the club have been significant. He will surely be remembered fondly by both the club and its fans when he takes his final bow later this season.
