Liam Delap netted his first goals for Chelsea since January as Xabi Alonso’s team finished their pre-season tour with a draw against Johor Darul Ta’zim.

In a tightly-timed schedule involving two matches in consecutive days, Alonso opted for a completely different lineup than the one that triumphed over AC Milan 3-0 in Jakarta on Saturday.

Delap, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Ipswich in 2025, scored just two goals in 41 appearances last season. He equaled that number in this match, with both goals coming from penalties.

These penalties allowed Chelsea to take the lead following an early goal from Arif Aiman for the hosts. However, the lead was fleeting; Oscar Arribas’ deflected free-kick equalized just three minutes later in the 65th minute.

As the game neared its conclusion, the Malaysian champions appeared poised for victory when Bergson found the target with a well-placed shot four minutes from time. Yet, an own goal from Antonio Glauder, who inadvertently directed a Mikhailo Mudryk cross into his own net in the 89th minute, salvaged a draw for the Blues.

The match was expected to conclude with a penalty shootout, but the players did not return to the field at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim Larkin.

Chelsea is set to return to London before facing Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, August 15, marking the end of their pre-season schedule.
