As reported by RMC Sport, Denis Zakaria (29) will take Krepin Diatta’s (26) place in AS Monaco’s UEFA Champions League roster. The Swiss midfielder was sidelined by an injury when the club finalized its list of players for Europe’s top knockout tournament.
Traditionally, clubs have been unable to register players outside of designated windows—at the beginning of the season and during the January transfer window—before the knockout stages commence. However, a change in UEFA’s regulations has allowed for new possibilities. The “temporary player” rule permits clubs to register players during the league phase if they were previously unavailable due to long-term injuries or illnesses. Consequently, the captain of Monaco is set to replace Diatta.
Zakaria Returns for Les Monégasques
The former Chelsea player has been absent from the Côte d’Azur outfit since mid-September due to a hamstring injury. After facing two months of recovery from this muscular issue, Zakaria is now on track to return to the pitch following his registration in Monaco’s Champions League lineup.
