Bologna has confirmed the loan signing of centre-forward Artem Dovbyk from Roma, with an option to buy. This transfer follows the permanent move of Santiago Castro to Roma.
Bologna Secures Dovbyk on Loan from Roma
Reports suggest Bologna has agreed to pay €3 million to secure Dovbyk on loan for the 2026-27 season, with an option to buy him permanently for an additional €18 million.
This transaction coincides with the confirmation of Castro’s transfer from Bologna to Roma, which cost the Giallorossi €35 million plus bonuses, including a 10% sell-on clause.
Dovbyk’s move marks the conclusion of his two-year tenure at Stadio Olimpico. He joined Roma in a €38 million transfer from Girona in the summer of 2024 after finishing as the top scorer in LaLiga during the 2023-24 season.
Despite scoring 12 goals in 32 appearances during his debut season, Dovbyk’s second season was marred by injuries, limiting him to just 14 league matches.
He will be the first Ukrainian to play for Bologna.

“Bologna FC 1909 has officially acquired the rights to Artem Dovbyk from AS Roma on a temporary basis until June 30, 2027, with an option to make the deal permanent,” stated a statement on Bologna’s website.
“Artem Dovbyk, the first Ukrainian player in the club’s history, is a modern striker known for his physicality, power, and quality in attacking play. He was born in 1997 and began his career in Ukraine with Dnipro-1 before making a name for himself in Europe, where he showcased his goal-scoring ability and strong presence in the box.”
“His impressive performances in recent seasons have positioned him among the most promising forwards in Europe. During the 2023-24 season, he helped Girona secure Champions League qualification by finishing third in La Liga, scoring 24 goals to become the league’s top scorer.”

The statement continued, “After being acquired by De Rossi‘s Roma, Dovbyk netted 17 goals in all competitions during his first season. However, he struggled to replicate that form in 2025-26 due to injury setbacks.”
“His arrival at Bologna signifies a pivotal chapter in his career, as he continues to be a key figure in the offensive line with consistent performances, a strong presence, and notable scoring capabilities.”
