The 48-year-old coach is returning to English football after a stint with Linköping FC and Djurgårdens IF in Sweden. Kirk has extensive experience in the English professional game, having previously managed Bristol City, Everton, and Leicester City, and served as an assistant head coach at Manchester United.

Kirk is known for his ability to enhance team performance, and he aims to make a significant impact as Durham enters a new era.
Upon his appointment, Kirk expressed his excitement: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Durham Women FC.
“In my initial conversations with Dawn [Hepple], Lee [Sanders], and Mark [Donnelly], it was evident that there is a genuine ambition to propel the club forward, which truly resonated with me.
“Durham has built a strong reputation with core values and a clear identity, and I’m eager to work with both the players and staff to strengthen those foundations.

“I believe in fostering an environment where everyone is challenged, supported, and motivated to improve daily, and I look forward to getting to know the team as we embark on this journey together.
“I can’t wait to get started and to meet the supporters as we gear up for the new season.”
Kirk’s appointment comes shortly after Durham secured its long-term future last month.
