According to a report from the Frankfurter Rundschau, Eintracht Frankfurt is currently eyeing Hoffenheim striker Max Moerstedt for a summer acquisition. The Hessen publication indicates that while the Bundesliga team plans to secure the 19-year-old in the next summer transfer window, the pressing need for offensive reinforcements may lead them to consider a winter purchase or loan instead.
Moerstedt had a standout performance during Hoffenheim’s summer training camp and scored twice in the team’s first Pokal match. However, the competitive landscape in Hoffenheim’s attack has made it challenging for the young talent to get playing time, with established players like Tim Lemperle and Fisnik Asllani ahead of him in the pecking order. Moerstedt’s contract with Hoffenheim runs until 2027.
How urgent is Eintracht Frankfurt’s need for a new striker?
Eintracht Frankfurt’s situation is quite urgent. Their leading scorer, Jonathan Burkardt, is currently sidelined with an injury. Meanwhile, Elye Wahi has fallen out of favor with head coach Dino Toppmöller and is not expected to play again. Compounding the issue, Michy Batshuayi suffered a foot fracture during a humiliating 6-0 defeat at RB Leipzig and will be out indefinitely.
Batshuayi had to leave the pitch at half-time, and although former Germany U21 international Jessic Ngankam has returned from injury, the Rundschau indicates that Eintracht does not see him as ready to take on the starting role and may seek to loan him out again in January.
Reports suggest that Eintracht might have a loan agreement in place with Newcastle for Danish striker William Osula for the upcoming year, although this has yet to be officially confirmed. Head coach Toppmöller currently has no choice but to rely on Ansgar Knauff as his primary striker until the transfer window reopens.
