A peak audience of 24 million watched England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina, the biggest live TV audience in the UK in five years.
The combined BBC One and iPlayer figures were the highest for any broadcaster since the England–Italy Euro 2020 final in 2021.
England’s 2-1 loss in Atlanta averaged 22.1 million viewers across BBC One and iPlayer.
There were also 12.6 million additional streams on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app.
Anthony Gordon put England ahead early in the second half, but Enzo Fernandez equalised with five minutes remaining.
A stoppage-time header from Lautaro Martinez sent defending champions Argentina into a second successive World Cup final.
The BBC Sport live coverage page on web and app recorded more than 24.6 million views worldwide, including 18.8 million from the UK.
England will play France in the third-place play-off in Miami on Saturday at 22:00 BST.
Argentina will meet Spain in the final in New Jersey on Sunday at 20:00.
Both matches will be broadcast live on BBC One, iPlayer, radio, and the BBC Sport website and app.
BBC Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski said that while the result disappointed England fans, the occasion once again united millions across the UK behind the team.
He added that the vast reach across TV, iPlayer, BBC Sounds, the BBC Sport website, app and social channels shows how major sporting events create powerful shared moments.
Kay-Jelski said the BBC is proud to have been with audiences throughout England’s World Cup run, bringing every moment to fans nationwide.
He concluded that, although England’s campaign is over, the World Cup drama continues.
