Free agents can be signed at any point during the season; however, they can only be officially registered when the registration window opens with the next transfer window. Let’s explore some former Serie A players that clubs might consider bringing back.
Goalkeepers – One of the prime candidates is former Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio, who could serve as a reliable backup for various teams in the league. Other notable options include Salvatore Sirigu and Alessio Cragno.
Defenders – This category features a standout option in Takehiro Tomiyasu, who transitioned from Bologna to Arsenal but is currently a free agent. He could be a valuable addition to almost any club. Additionally, ex-Juventus defender Mattia De Sciglio, along with former Roma and Napoli fullbacks Rick Karsdorp and Mario Rui, are also on the market.
Midfielders – Dele Alli, once touted as an England wonderkid and most recently with Como, is available but will need a club willing to invest time in his development. Additional players with Serie A experience include Miralem Pjanic and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Attackers – This position is somewhat less robust, though a few noteworthy names remain. Lorenzo Insigne and Douglas Costa may have aged but both enjoyed successful tenures in Italy. Mario Balotelli is also an intriguing option worth considering.
A comprehensive list of 100 free agents has been published by TMW.
