Mark Robins expressed satisfaction with the effort displayed by his Stoke City team in their 0-0 draw against fellow Championship promotion contenders Queens Park Rangers. However, he was deeply troubled by a challenge that he believes has resulted in a serious injury to striker Divin Mubama.
Mubama, who is on loan from Manchester City, had to be stretchered off early in the second half after a challenge from Queens Park Rangers defender Jimmy Dunne, who was subsequently shown a yellow card.
Robins described the tackle as ‘terrible’ and although he appreciated his team’s performance, he acknowledged the urgent need to strengthen his squad as the transfer window approaches.
Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, he said: “I am incredibly proud of the players; they really gave their all once again. The support from our fans was phenomenal, as they backed the team throughout the match. There are aspects that frustrate me which I can’t discuss, but I’m sure everyone knows what I’m referring to.”
“As for Divin, it appears he may have a broken ankle or fibula. It was an awful, horrendous tackle. Some decisions were clearly poor.”
He added, “I feel wronged that the match ended 0-0, especially with how many times they disrupted the game. It’s hard to understand how teams can manage to get away with that in today’s game. I can’t help but feel that we wouldn’t have been allowed to play in the same way.”
“Once again, our players gave everything, we created opportunities, but we’re now down to a depleted squad, and now we have a player with a broken leg. We desperately need assistance, which isn’t the easiest thing to secure, but I’ll have to find a way to prepare the team for Wednesday’s match.”
