Gianluigi Donnarumma believes he is at the peak of his career with Manchester City, despite a history of winning significant trophies before his 2025 move to England.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper clinched the UEFA Champions League and multiple Ligue 1 titles during his time at Paris Saint-Germain. He joined City on the last day of the recent summer transfer window, becoming one of the club’s most notable signings under sporting director Hugo Viana.

Donnarumma has seamlessly transitioned into English football, recording eight clean sheets in 18 Premier League matches this season and two out of five in European competitions.

By late 2025, he earned two of the most esteemed accolades in goalkeeping: the Yashin Trophy and FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Goalkeeper award.

Despite his stellar achievements, Donnarumma asserts that the challenges of playing for a club like City and competing in the Premier League have elevated his game to new levels.

In a recent interview with Manchester City’s official channels, he stated: “This is the best league in the world. Watching the games from outside is amazing; it’s a joy to play in this league—it’s even more enjoyable.”

“Being here, at City and in the Premier League, means I’m at the pinnacle of my career right now.”

Donnarumma made his move to the Etihad Stadium for £26 million, quickly taking over as City’s first-choice goalkeeper, surpassing fellow summer signing James Trafford. He revealed that the club’s positive reputation played a significant role in his decision to transfer to Manchester.

“I was eager to join here because everyone had good things to say about Manchester City, and I’ve found a wonderful family. I’m extremely happy to be here,” Donnarumma shared.

“There’s a real sense of family, and that makes me very content. The strong interest from City and a top coach like Pep Guardiola is a great source of pride for me. I feel honored to be part of the City family.”

A significant factor in Donnarumma’s smooth transition to Manchester has been Erling Haaland, who has become one of his closest friends in the locker room. They often share jokes on social media and sit next to each other on the team bus.

Donnarumma has already showcased his skills in crucial matches, playing a vital role in helping City secure draws in their recent encounters against Sunderland, Chelsea, and Brighton & Hove Albion.
