Fitzpatrick: A Dream to…

Linfield midfielder Kyle McClean expressed his delight at playing alongside Matthew Fitzpatrick, who scored the decisive goal in the ‘Big Two’ derby at Windsor Park.

Fitzpatrick’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory for the Blues, closing the gap to league leaders Larne to just five points.

The 32-year-old has been in remarkable form this season, netting 17 goals and playing a key role in Linfield’s nine-match unbeaten streak in the league.

“If you look at his statistics from last year and this, he has consistently been among the top performers,” McClean told BBC Sport NI. “Playing alongside Fitzy is a dream for me; he draws defenders in, allowing me to make forward runs and creates chances. Over the last couple of seasons, he’s really found his scoring touch.”

“Since he joined us, I’ve maintained that he is a fantastic player and a joy to collaborate with.”

Linfield manager David Healy praised the victory as a “significant win” as the defending champions seek to mount a late title challenge.

“I’m very pleased with the effort put in,” Healy remarked to BBC Sport NI. “Declan [Devine], Tim [McCourt], and Paddy [McClean] have assembled a solid team at Glentoran. Their supporters have been waiting a long time for success, and their squad is packed with players who can pose a threat.”

“Today’s win is vital for us against a strong opponent.”
