Flick Contemplates…

According to an update from Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick is contemplating starting Fermin Lopez in the upcoming La Liga match against Girona. This decision may come as a surprise, considering the midfielder has only recently recovered from an injury.

Typically, players recovering from muscular injuries are eased back into play, but Fermin’s situation may be different.

His recovery has progressed better than anticipated. With Dani Olmo sidelined for two to three weeks, Flick might opt to place his trust in the young talent from the start.

It’s important to note that Fermin sustained a muscular injury during the final moments of the match against Getafe on September 21.

He was initially projected to be out for three weeks; however, the timing of the international break has benefitted him, granting him nearly four weeks for a full recovery.

Now fully recovered, the 22-year-old has been training normally with the team since the start of the week.

Flick’s Limited Options

Flick’s decision to potentially start Fermin carries some risks, but it also demonstrates the confidence he has in the young player, who has already showcased his talent since making the jump to the first team.

The manager views Fermin as someone who can bring energy, intense pressing, and a direct attacking threat—attributes that will be crucial against a Girona team known for their solid defensive organization and swift counterattacks.

While Flick has other players he could use, Fermin’s energy and familiarity with the role make him a reliable choice for this match.

With Olmo’s injury disrupting the balance in Barcelona’s midfield, Fermin might just be the key to sustaining their attacking flow and creativity.
