Gasperinis Fury Over…

Gian Piero Gasperini displayed visible frustration following Roma’s defeat to Como, expressing his discontent over the decision to issue a second yellow card to Wesley. He also voiced concerns about the growing issue of simulation in modern football.

The Roma head coach was candid during his interview with DAZN, as reported via TuttoMercatoWeb.

“I’ve reviewed the incident involving Wesley, and today, it’s pointless to comment on this ongoing trend in football, especially regarding simulation,” he lamented.

“That was a crucial moment for us, much like their equalizer. We were initially defending well against the cutbacks, but at that moment, we fell short. Some of it is on us, and while we’re not in a great place right now, these blatant incidents are hard to overlook.”

Gasperini Shifts Focus to Europa League Following Defeat

Gasperini also noted that the absence of Donyell Malen significantly impacts Roma’s attacking capabilities. However, he emphasized that this is more of a team issue than solely relying on one individual.

The Dutch player scored from the penalty spot to give Roma the early lead, but was substituted with 25 minutes remaining.

“We understandably depend on him, considering how many goals he contributes,” Gasperini said. “He consistently creates clear chances, which indicates that the team is functioning well and progressing as needed.”

When analyzing the match, he was straightforward about Roma’s approach.

Gasperini argued that Roma had the potential to turn the match around after halftime, but Como’s strategic changes at the break, including key substitutions prior to Wesley’s exit, were pivotal.

With the Europa League second leg against Bologna approaching, Gasperini acknowledged the need to move forward quickly.

“The players are young and some have experience; they need to recover their energy swiftly. The suspensions disrupt our rhythm, but Thursday’s match is crucial, and we have to be prepared.”
