Getafe boss Jose Bordalas…

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas…

Jose Bordalas stands alongside esteemed managers like Manuel Pellegrini, Diego Simeone, and Ernesto Valverde as one of La Liga’s most reliable coaches. As the head of Getafe, he has consistently ensured the team’s safety despite operating on a limited budget.

This week, Cadena SER reported that Crystal Palace is targeting Bordalas as a potential successor to Oliver Glasner, who is anticipated to leave Selhurst Park. If Bordalas were to take the role, he would have more resources at his disposal.

Jose Bordalas Addresses Crystal Palace Interest

Before Getafe’s 3-1 loss to Burgos in the Copa del Rey, Bordalas was questioned about the alleged interest from the Premier League club.

“My sole focus is on my club, Getafe, and tomorrow’s match against Burgos. That is where my attention lies. Nothing else matters,” he responded to Cadena Cope.

Getafe President Comments on Rumors

Getafe President Angel Torres also reacted to the speculation, expressing skepticism in his remarks to Cadena SER.

“A lot of ridiculous things have been said, like the suggestion that the coach would leave. He’s very happy here and doesn’t speak English… So why would he go there?”

Bordalas’s contract ends next summer, and he typically renews at the end of each season.

“It all depends on how I feel when I wake up,” he joked. “Pepe will decide once the team is safe.”

Christantus Uche Transfer Update

The two clubs collaborated during the summer transfer period, allowing Christantus Uche to join on loan with a purchase option. Concerns have arisen regarding the possibility of not exercising that option due to Uche’s limited playing time under Glasner, but Torres is optimistic about the €25m deal being finalized.

“Uche is effectively sold. There’s a buy option, and he is gradually getting into the team. Although it’s been challenging for him, I trust there won’t be any issues. Crystal Palace is a respected and reliable club. He chose to join them, and I see no reason for them to go back on that.”

Bordalas’ Previous Tenure at Getafe

Since earning promotion for Alaves over a decade ago, and subsequently Getafe, Bordalas has spent every season at the Coliseum except for one year at Valencia. That season saw Valencia finish mid-table and reach the Copa del Rey final, where they lost to Betis in a penalty shootout.

Last summer, Bordalas was linked with a move to Sevilla, but after a change in sporting directors, the club opted for Matias Almeyda instead.
