Getafe has secured the services of Belgium international midfielder Orel Mangala (28) on a loan deal from Lyon, as both clubs have officially announced. After their defeat in the Champions League third qualifying round’s first leg against Sparta Prague on Tuesday, Les Gones are working on reducing their squad size and need to offload several high-wage players. Part of Mangala’s salary will be covered by the La Liga side.
Previously signed from Nottingham Forest in 2024 on a four-year contract, Mangala’s time at Lyon was hindered by a serious ACL injury during his loan period at Everton last year. He will now spend the season on loan at Getafe while under contract with Lyon until 2028.
L’Equipe has reported that Mangala’s exit could prompt further departures as Lyon seeks to stabilize their finances.
