Guernsey FC rekindled their title aspirations in the Southern Combination Premier by overcoming league leaders Haywards Heath Town with a 3-1 victory at Victoria Park.
This win reduced the gap between the third-placed Guernsey and their rivals to five points with 10 matches left in the season.

Haywards Heath seized an early lead in the 13th minute when Thomas Chalaye quickly reacted to a saved shot from Charlie Meehan. However, the hosts equalized just two minutes later, as Sam Murray headed in Ross Allen’s cross.
Guernsey’s Brandon Wallace came close to scoring when his shot was cleared off the line, and Allen had a goal ruled out for offside shortly after the 25-minute mark.
Nonetheless, record goalscorer Allen made his mark four minutes later, capitalizing on a loose ball in the penalty area to put the Green Lions ahead 2-1.
Wallace nearly extended the lead just before halftime, hitting the post, while Dave Merris had a long-range effort thwarted moments later.

Guernsey fans didn’t have to wait long after the break for another goal, as Allen converted Fin Patterson’s cross in the 50th minute.
As Haywards Heath ramped up the pressure, Guernsey’s keeper Josh Addison made two crucial saves in the final 15 minutes to maintain the team’s advantage, bouncing back impressively following their recent 4-0 defeat to fourth-placed Horsham YM the previous week.
“I felt we were very dominant in the first half,” said Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance during an interview with BBC Radio Guernsey. “They got their goal from a cheap play on our end—possibly a foul, but we switched off after a throw-in and became vulnerable due to how we play.”

“However, the upside of our style is that we can really press teams and wear them down, which we achieved in that first half. Kudos to the players, as they executed our system perfectly and followed our game plan well. The performance we had in the first half is exactly why we play the way we do, and to achieve it against a top side like Haywards Heath is remarkable. It’s much easier to perform against weaker teams, but to do it against a strong team is fantastic, and I thought our first-half performance was outstanding.”
