Steve Clarke, head coach of Scotland

“The support from the fans was incredible at the end. We defended strongly and although we could have been more effective with the ball, we knew it was a must-win game— and we delivered. It was a great evening for the fans, and we limited their big chances against us.

“I reminded the players to be ready to support the team whenever they’re needed.

“The team’s formation was solid, but not much occurred at the beginning. I realized early on that it would be a tightly contested match, and thankfully, we were the ones who found the net.

“When you defend well, you usually set yourself up for a better chance of winning. We defended excellently tonight and got a bit of luck with the goal, but this team works tirelessly to create those opportunities.

“It’s rare for Scottish teams to triumph in the World Cup, and I believe this marks our fifth victory in a World Cup final—my players are doing well.”
