Hughes laments Carlisles…

Carlisle United’s head coach, Mark Hughes, expressed disappointment after his team unexpectedly lost 3-1 at home to Woking.

A win would have propelled Carlisle to the top of the National League, but they surrendered an early lead and faced their first league defeat since late September, ending a nine-match unbeaten streak.

Despite remaining tied on points with Rochdale and Forest Green Rovers, the Blues’ goal difference is less favorable, emphasizing the missed opportunity for crucial points at Brunton Park.

“Leading 1-0, we should have built on that, especially being at home and with the chance to take the top spot,” Hughes told BBC Radio Cumbria.

“We did not capitalize on that chance, and that’s disappointing from our perspective in terms of recognizing the moment.

“We need to regroup quickly. There are important matches ahead, and we must perform significantly better than we did tonight.”

Carlisle’s upcoming match is an FA Trophy clash against Harborough Town from the Southern League Premier Central Division. Following recent back-to-back defeats, including a loss to Blackpool in the FA Cup, Hughes indicated that a change in strategy might be necessary.

“The players need to refocus and understand what is required to secure victories,” he remarked.

“They are a capable group, but tonight’s performance fell short of expectations. However, I believe they will bounce back and come out stronger.”
