Danny Rohl expresses his unwavering “belief and trust” in Youssef Chermiti, the struggling striker, despite the challenges he has faced during his debut season with Rangers.

The 21-year-old Portuguese forward, who joined from Everton in the summer for an estimated fee of £8 million while Russell Martin was managing, has managed to score only four goals in 28 outings.

After netting twice in Rangers’ 3-1 victory against Celtic at Parkhead in early January, Chermiti has been unable to score in the subsequent six matches. He notably squandered a key opportunity to extend his team’s lead against Motherwell, who later equalized late in the game.

However, Rohl remains optimistic about the striker’s potential, pointing to his performance in the Old Firm match as a sign that he can regain his form soon.

During a press conference ahead of their upcoming match against Premiership leaders Hearts on Sunday, Rohl was asked how to extract the best from the out-of-form striker.

“You provide him with belief and trust,” the German coach stated.

“You can imagine it’s tough for Youssef. It’s not just about the fans’ reactions; it’s how he feels inside. He wants to score and contribute significantly to the team. I hope that the next time he finds himself in a good position, he takes an extra touch and aims for the corner to finish it off.”

“But I genuinely believe it will come because I see so much potential in him. It’s about embracing those small moments, showing determination, and continuously putting in the effort. Then we will celebrate his successes.”

“He was instrumental in the Celtic match with his brilliant goals, and I know he can do it again. I have complete faith in him.”
