Igor Tudor Named Interim…

Igor Tudor has been appointed as the interim manager of Tottenham until the end of the season, following the dismissal of Thomas Frank.

As reported by The Independent, Tudor, a former centre-back for Croatia and Juventus, was selected as the top candidate after Spurs explored various options and decided on an experienced interim solution.

Tudor’s appointment has now been confirmed by the club, with he set to oversee the team until they find a permanent replacement for Frank after the current campaign. It’s important to note that there is no provision for extending his contract beyond the summer.

“I am honored to join this club at such a pivotal time,” Tudor expressed, as Tottenham currently sits 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone.

“I recognize the responsibility that comes with this role, and my goal is clear: to ensure our performances become more consistent and to compete with determination in every match,” he added.

“There is a significant amount of quality within this squad, and my duty is to organize, energize, and enhance our results swiftly.”

Sporting director Johan Lange stated: “Igor brings clarity, intensity, and experience in challenging situations to make an impact.

“Our goal is simple – to stabilize our performances, leverage the quality within the squad, and compete strongly in both the Premier League and Champions League.”

Tottenham’s next match is scheduled for February 22 against their north London rivals and Premier League leaders, Arsenal.

Frank was let go on Wednesday after a 2-1 loss to Newcastle, which saw fans once again directing chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at him.

Tudor’s previous tenure ended in dismissal when he was fired by Juventus in October after a seven-month stint.

Despite his abrupt exit in Turin, Tudor proved successful during his interim period as he led the team to Champions League qualification after stepping in for the sacked Thiago Motta.

He was given a two-year contract in the summer, but his tenure ended amid a disappointing stretch that included an eight-game winless streak during which Juventus failed to score in four of those matches.

Prior to his time at Juventus, Tudor’s coaching experience included roles at Lazio, Marseille, Udinese, Hellas Verona, Hadjuk Split, Galatasaray, PAOK, and Turkish outfit Kardemir Karabukspor.

Frank’s tenure lasted only eight months and concluded after two wins in 17 Premier League matches. However, the team fared better in the Champions League, qualifying for the knockout stage in fourth place during the group phase.

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is among the candidates being considered for the permanent position, along with Marco Rose, the ex-RB Leipzig coach, and Edin Terzic, who led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2024, ahead of a competitive managerial market this summer.
