Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso faced a range of questions during his pre-match press conference on Friday, ahead of his team’s clash with Sevilla. The queries revolved around his job security and his relationship with the club. It’s widely believed that a victory over Sevilla is crucial for Alonso’s position as the team approaches the winter break.
Alonso dismissed claims that he was ‘suffering’ during these press conferences in recent weeks, asserting that he approached the challenges ahead with optimism. Nevertheless, the Basque manager has occasionally appeared despondent amid the recent struggles of Los Blancos.

Xabi Alonso’s Concerns with Real Madrid
Despite having seemingly resolved some issues within the dressing room following public incidents involving Vinicius Junior and Fede Valverde, Alonso faces several challenges. Cadena SER reports that Alonso is currently troubled by the lack of a clear playing style and direction within the team. Just as fans have expressed frustration over the team’s lack of fluidity, this has become Alonso’s primary concern, as he is acutely aware that some criticisms of their performance are valid.

Real Madrid’s Plans for Alonso
The night before, Cadena SER reported that the plan is to retain Alonso until at least the Spanish Supercup. A loss against Sevilla on Saturday could alter this strategy; however, the club plans to reassess the situation after the Supercup in Saudi Arabia, where Alonso will face a semi-final against Atletico Madrid and potentially a final against Barcelona or Athletic Club.
Real Madrid’s Inconsistent Playing Style
Earlier in the season, Los Blancos displayed a clear strategy of high pressing and attacking from the opposition’s half. However, over the past two months, only glimpses of that approach have emerged, as the team has largely shifted to a more cautious strategy, seeking to exploit space upon regaining possession while defending deeper.
