This week on The Italian Football Podcast, Bacary Sagna, a former defender for Arsenal, expressed that the club’s best recent acquisitions are full-backs Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber.

“I believe Calafiori and Timber are the best signings Arsenal has made in a long time, given their reliability and ability to play in multiple roles,” Sagna stated.

“They showcase versatility, and Mikel can depend on them. They consistently give their all and perform well. While a team may need more flashy or faster players to become champions, it’s these types of players who can contribute to winning the league.”

When it comes to their performances, both Timber and Calafiori rank among Arsenal’s most reliable players. Over the past year, they’ve had few subpar performances between them.

However, one major challenge they face is maintaining fitness. Timber was sidelined for almost his entire first season at Arsenal due to an ACL injury, and Calafiori has faced several injuries since joining.

To highlight this issue, Calafiori is set to make his return in Wednesday night’s match against Kairat Almaty after a nine-game absence, while Timber has been ruled out due to a minor injury.

Both statistically and visually, Calafiori and Timber are undoubtedly among the Premier League’s finest in their roles. The key challenge remains getting them consistently onto the pitch for crucial matches when Arsenal needs them most.
