Vinicius Jr.’s contract remains one of Real Madrid‘s major unresolved topics, with negotiations dating back to the aftermath of the 2025 Club World Cup, shortly after Xabi Alonso’s appointment.
As reported by AS, it was during this timeframe that the player’s agents last met in person with the club, where they appeared close to reaching an agreement before discussions stalled unexpectedly.

Negotiations are set to recommence from that juncture.
A deal that almost materialized
In their meeting at Valdebebas, Vinicius reportedly made a significant adjustment to his initial salary expectations, which had been around €30 million net annually.
Real Madrid also enhanced their proposal, bringing both parties much closer to a deal. Despite the optimistic developments, the renewal was never finalized.

Current salary and new requests
Vinicius is now aiming for a salary of around €20 million net per season, which is an increase of approximately €5 million from his current earnings.

His existing contract, signed in 2022 and officially announced in October 2023, extends until 2027 and is worth €75 million net over five years, averaging €15 million annually.
The agreement was structured progressively, starting with a salary of about €10 million net per season, which increases annually to about €18 million in the final year.
The 26-year-old Brazilian also received an additional €2 million per season after winning FIFA’s The Best award, a bonus that would be activated if he won the Ballon d’Or.
Image rights as a major sticking point
While salary remains crucial, image rights have emerged as a significant hurdle in the negotiations.

Kylian Mbappe retains nearly 100% of his image rights, a structure that enhances his overall financial package at Real Madrid.
Vinicius is now pursuing a similar setup. As a prominent figure in football’s commercial scene, he holds endorsement deals with 18 global brands.

His endorsements include partnerships with brands like Nike, Apple, PlayStation, Pepsi, Gatorade, Boss, Visa, Marriott Bonvoy, Havaianas, UNESCO, Clear, Rexona, Omo, Vivo, Prada, Dubai Tourism, and Betnacional.
Additionally, he is believed to be seeking a renewal bonus similar to the signing bonus Mbappe obtained upon joining Real Madrid.

A tense situation
Vinicius’ current contract expires in 2027, allowing him to negotiate with clubs outside of Spain starting in January if no renewal is reached.
As such, Real Madrid is eager for a swift resolution, whether positive or negative.
Latest updates from Vinicius’ camp indicate that his primary focus is on remaining at Real Madrid by signing a new contract.
Having recently returned to Valdebebas after his vacation, Vinicius is poised to have a key meeting with Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid’s senior management in the coming hours to discuss his future.
