Inter Milan’s head coach Cristian Chivu commended his team’s bravery and flexibility following their 1-0 victory against Atalanta, emphasizing the contributions of young forwards Ange-Yoan Bonny and Pio Esposito as the Nerazzurri secured their position at the top of Serie A for 2025.
In an interview with DAZN after the match in Bergamo, he shared his thoughts via FCInterNews, reflecting on a performance that could have resulted in a greater margin of victory.

Ultimately, the match was decided by a goal from Lautaro Martinez.
When asked about Inter stepping out of their comfort zone, particularly regarding the substitution of Marcus Thuram for Pio Esposito that led to the winning assist, Chivu highlighted the importance of collective effort over individual moments.
“I’m pleased with Marcus’ performance,” he remarked.
“He worked tirelessly, drew defenders’ attention, and applied the right pressure. When we felt he had given his all, Pio came on and set up Lautaro for the goal. But overall, I’m proud of the entire team’s attitude. In the first half, we played well, while in the second half they adjusted their game with man-to-man marking. We’re happy with the result because, as you often remind me, results are what truly matter.”

Chivu then shifted the focus to Inter’s emerging attacking talents.
He emphasized that Pio Esposito was not developing alone.
“Bonny is also doing well; let’s not forget him,” he asserted.
“They are hardworking players who have gained the team’s affection. Whether they start or come off the bench, they consistently contribute. We are fortunate to have four forwards who bring this level of input.”

Despite Inter finishing the year in first place, Chivu dismissed any notion that their position was guaranteed.
“In football, nothing is guaranteed,” he remarked.
“To be competitive, one must be daring and show it on the field. The current state of the league reflects that. However, it’s still December, and we haven’t yet completed the first half of the season. We are aware that the road ahead is long. We need to be competitive and committed. Sometimes, we have to confront challenges and those who assume everything is easy.”
He added: “The pitch reveals the true value of a team and the league. We strive in all circumstances, responding to both highs and lows. We always maintain our composure and address difficulties head-on. We are prepared to work even harder.”

When questioned about recent comments from Antonio Conte, Chivu responded firmly.
“What Conte says doesn’t concern me,” he stated.
Regarding the theme of trust, Chivu refrained from making any grand predictions about the future.
“We still have to finish up 2025,” he said with a smile. “I’m not ready to think about it yet; my mind is all over the place. Perhaps after our first match in 2026, I’ll share more.”
As the interview wrapped up, when reminded of the upcoming clash with Bologna in the new year, Chivu humorously remarked, “I hope to be there,” eliciting laughter from those present.
