Inter Milan is making significant strides toward re-signing João Cancelo, with negotiations gaining momentum following a crucial agreement with Al-Hilal.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, Inter has received key approval from the Saudi club to subsidize part of Cancelo’s salary in the event of a loan to Milan.

This development has rebalanced the negotiations and paved the way for substantive talks.
While Cancelo originally aimed to return to Barcelona, Inter has now taken the lead in the pursuit.
The Nerazzurri have demonstrated a stronger commitment and more financial flexibility.
In contrast, Barcelona continues to face limitations due to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Inter’s proactive approach has impressed both Cancelo and his representatives, particularly as the player seeks reliability and stability.
Al-Hilal Plays a Key Role in Inter Milan’s Pursuit of Cancelo
Al-Hilal retains Cancelo’s contract until 2027, with an annual salary of €15 million plus bonuses. The Saudi club, however, is willing to substantially assist with his wages until June.

As reported by La Gazzetta, tension with Simone Inzaghi demoted Cancelo’s status within the team. Following an injury, he lost his spot and was ultimately left off the squad list for 2026. Al-Hilal desires a straightforward resolution.
Under the current proposal, Inter would contribute up to €3 million net, while Al-Hilal would cover the remaining €4.5 million. This arrangement has enhanced confidence within Inter’s boardroom.
The decision now lies with Cancelo. Inter aims to have him available promptly and is hopeful that he will be ready for the match against Napoli on January 11.
Meanwhile, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio are maintaining regular communication with Jorge Mendes, Cancelo’s agent since his early days at Benfica.
